Thoughts in the Field

SOUND WORK

Thoughts In The Field is an ongoing collaboration between Isobel and sound artist/musician Tullis Rennie. The project documents sounds and thoughts through sound diary type field recordings.

These recordings experiment with highlighting the presence of the field recorder through their voice, which exposes the recordist's thoughts and associations in the moment, opening up a dialogue between listener, recordist and place.

While the project emerged organically with no set agenda, Anderson & Rennie composed a sound piece that interleaves sections of some of these recordings titled Getting Lost (2015), which was premiered at City, University of London.

This practice-as-research project also formed the basis of an academic article written by Anderson & Rennie for the journal Organised Sound titled 'Thoughts in the Field:‘Self-reflexive narrative' in field recording', which can be accessed here.
